Many truths were revealed at our October meeting by co-owners Judy Zabielski and Laura Mueller of Acacia Organics store in Barrington. The stores specializes in organic and natural solutions for a healthy life (think pet food, cleaning supplies, baby products, skin and hair-care and household cleaners).
Did you know that the average woman eats an average of 5 lbs. of lipstick in their life! Gross. Review your products at www.cosmeticsdatabase.com. The products that we use in our homes and on our bodies can negatively impact the way we feel both short and long term. Harsh chemicals and aerosols are responsible for many allergy conditions and disease. Skin is the largest organ of our body and all the lotions applied are absorbed into our bloodstream. Think about that the next time you purchase a product that includes any paraben preservatives. They are located at 100 E. Station Street. Stop by and see how you can begin incorporating a healthier lifestyle into your family.

The Reverand Mary E. Tudela, Executive Director of Samaritan Counseling Center, visited club to share insight on the recent epidemic of teen suicides in the Barrington area. She offered recommendations on keeping well as a parent and questions to ask an at-risk child. There are several organizations available in District 220 that offer counseling and advice on this topic, including a 60 person task force called H.E.R.E. Any concerned parents should treat a suicide discussion as a 911 life-threatening situation and respond immediately. Children are encouraged to lose a friendship instead of losing a friend by choosing to not keep a suicide threat a secret. She distributed gummy bracelets with the words “Suicide Never A Secret” during her visit. Reverend Tudela also suggested we weigh the matter of publicly sharing these tragedies versus keeping the news private in order to prevent future suicides that their glorification may invite. Our final meeting of the year was briefly held afterwards along with many thank-you's and congratulations to club members. Wendy Bower expressed heartfelt gratitude to her committee chairs for a year of productivity and finally was able to pass the gavel on to Carrie Carr as new BJWC President.
Hospice of Northeastern Illinois (HNI) shared their Building a Legacy of Care plans with club. With a mutually beneficial relationship, hospice and BJWC have been complementing one another's efforts for years. HNI has broken ground for the new Pepper Family Hospice Home and Center for Care, a LEED-certified, 16-bed inpatient facility, in Barrington. We are all looking forward to its progress as the construction site is transformed and slated for completion in Spring 2010.
Well-deserved recognition was presented to Megan Oster who has headed up Safety Town over the years. She has been a blessing to both BJWC and safety town campers.
Her dedication and above and beyond efforts are so appreciated.
Thank you Megan for your past and continued support.
We had a wonderful turnout and the food, refreshments and Anna Shea chocolates were such a nice treat. The Lake Barrington Field House hosted this entire meeting for us and we cannot thank them enough for their generosity. Please take a look at the note below from Jo Ann Graser and take advantage of the specials offered to BJWC members. As always, special thanks to all of you for your continued support of BJWC!

Associate member Chris Girard shared her 7 years of Romana's Pilates experience with BJWC. Pilates encourages stretch, strength and control. It makes you look, feel and move better! Because of the one-on-one nature of the training, programs can be modified for injuries or body types. It is very important to select an instructor who has done extensive study, observation and testing. Continuing education is a long-term must, too. Pilates is performed on both specialized equipment or a mat. Studio 6 also provides nutrition and lifestyle balance coaching. Chris' love of pilates is evidenced by her enthusiasm when she speaks to others about it.
At the end of her demonstration, Chris awarded 3 lucky members 1 free training session at Studio 6.
Call Chris at 847.602.8001 if you're ready to let your core strength take you anywhere!
