COMMUNITY SERVICE

CO CHAIR, chelsie otto

BJWC members give back directly to the community through active volunteer work. All BJWC are required to perform at least two hours of community service. Our philosophy is that through this direct engagement, our members will gain a deeper understanding of the impact we have on the community and how other groups are impacted by the work we do. Additionally, through our community outreach committee, we provide additional support to others locally such as Barrington Honor Ride & Bike Barrington, Sunny Hill School, etc.

Meals on Wheels

Meals prepped and ready for delivery!

BJWC continues to support the Meals on Wheels program run by the Barrington Area Council on Aging (BACOA). BACOA’s Meals on Wheels program provides a hot, nutritious meal to older adults who are unable to prepare meals for themselves either because of poor health or low income. BJWC provides 3 volunteers/drivers to deliver meals on the 2nd Tuesday and the 31st day of each month, year-round.

Volunteer opportunities are ongoing and available now!

Tutoring at Sunny hill

Each Wednesday morning several BJWC members meet with students of Sunny Hill Elementary in a one-on-one or small group setting to deliver more personalized attention, focusing on reading, math or a particular assignment. For each volunteer that attends, the pull to return becomes stronger as the need is underscored in interacting with these appreciative, enthusiastic, and fun students!

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic our tutoring sessions were cancelled in 2020. BJWC members created videos to add to the Sunny Hill school library teaching different skills. BJWC also helped stock the Sunny Hill “PAWS” awards closet and funded the purchase of headsets and keyboards!
