“Meet Me at the Speakeasy” Fundraiser a Roaring Success!

The secret is out - it was a swell time at the Speakeasy-themed Spring casino fundraiser hosted by Barrington Junior Women’s Club on March 2nd at Biltmore Country Club.  Scripted writing with a password at the entrance greeted guests and the intimate lighting and decor channeled the allure and secrecy of the 1920’s. Nearly 200 attendees dressed the part, complete with gentlemen donning vests and ladies with beaded headbands, capturing the look with a photo opportunity against the vintage reclaimed barn door supplied by All American Reclaim.

Gaming pulled in a dedicated and loyal crowd, offering up Blackjack, Roulette and Craps tables.  Others tried their luck at raffles for a Maui stay or a luxe Louis Vuitton handbag, each capped at 100 tickets and donated by Joe & Jenny Miller and Rob & Melanie Kaloustian, respectively. An extensive Silent Auction of unique packages and experiences, including a dinner party at Barrington’s White House and a men’s designer watch from MJ Miller led to some competitive bidding, while the music of talented band Greenlight pulled guests onto the dance floor. An exciting element of the evening was the announcement of two raffle winners - one for a 10 night 2 bedroom condo stay in Maui’s historic Lahaina District, and the second raffle being a sought-after, limited edition Louis Vuitton Beaubourg handbag. Each raffle was capped at 100 entrants.

This event raised nearly $45,000 net and will help BJWC award grants to local 501(c)3 organizations, and scholarships to Barrington High School seniors.  Last year, $130,000 was disbursed to over two dozen organizations and 7 BHS students with total funds raised through sponsorship donations, an annual Fall Fashion Show, and BJWC’s annual Spring fundraiser.

The event could not happen without the many talented BJWC Members, especially Speakeasy Chair Kiley Humbert, the Spring committee, and the generous donors and sponsors.  A complete list of our “Meet Me at the Speakeasy” sponsors can be found here!
