A View from the Veranda

Fashion Show and Silent Auction at The Concorde in Kildeer. The runway featured student designers, Barrington merchants and a New York designer, with Joyce Stout as commentator. More than 300 reservations, basket centerpieces, a raffle, and three $150 scholarships awarded to young designers.

Cornucopia

The craft show at the Knights of Columbus Hall, with a Preview Party the night before limited to 350 tickets. Every member followed the “2-2-2 plan”: buy two raffle books, bake two items and work two hours. Up about $2,000 from the year before.

    • 1Honoring long serviceTerri Parker presented plaques to Ruth Munson and Delores Homuth for their years of service.
    • 29Cantigny tourA tour of the McCormick home and gardens in Wheaton, then lunch overlooking the golf course.

    • 14CornucopiaThe fall craft show, with the Preview Party on the 13th.
    • 19Talbots holiday previewFour members modeled at Talbots of Barrington, followed by a recipe exchange at Marty Gibbons’ home.

    • 10Juniors Christmas PartyAt the Presbyterian Church. Members’ generosity helped six needy families, and the club donated to Winterscapes and the Elgin Crisis Center.

    • 14The Bridal BashTen members modeled their own wedding and bridesmaid gowns, with homemade wedding cakes.
    • 29Book discussionMembers read and reviewed “Scarlett” together.
